The Lore of Sweetheart Springs
Once upon a time, families banded together on the Oregon Trail and moved west. They settled on the springs they found in northwest Colorado, eager to finally find a place to call home. They divided the land among themselves, but as the winters grew harsher; they turned against one another, forming the original feuding families.
One day, a child from a settling family fell into the water. A man from the other side of the springs jumped in to save him. To prevent anyone else from trying to cross the wide berth of springs unsafely, they came together as a community and built a covered bridge. Soon, the town grew up around it.
Legend has it that the first of the sweethearts were from two feuding families. They secretly met on the covered bridge, knowing it was one of the few places that they could do so without being caught. The bridge was where they exchanged their first kiss, their first assurances of love, where he proposed. Every season, new couples began to find their way to one another. But it was especially around Christmas that the magic happened.
